Create your own Personalized newspaper with Meehive

By Sharninder | Published: April 11, 2009

meehiveI have a confession to make – I am addicted to news. I have to read a newspaper the first thing in the morning and my RSS reader is open all the time that I’m on my desktop.

While I’m not yet ready to switch full time to an e-paper, there are days when I wish that my newspaper would cover more technology and give a little less coverage to politics. Of course, since the offline newspapers cater to audiences with a wide array of interests, customizing them for specific tastes is not possible.

This is where Meehive comes in.

Meehive is a free web application that lets the user create a customized newspaper with news tailored according to the users interests. Just Let Meehive know of your interests and sit back and read your own custom made newspaper every morning.

To get started with creating your own Personalized newspaper, register (it is free) at Meehive and let it know your about your interests.

Meehive lets the user chose from a comprehensive list of topics and then aggregates stories from those interest areas using news sources from around the Internet and hundreds of blogs.

Meehive

Under any category, Meehive lets you select popular topics or specify keywords related to any topic you’re interested in. So, for example, if you’re an Angelina Jolie fan and are only interested in entertainment news related to Angelina, then let Meehive know exactly that.

Meehive

Meehive also lets you add your favorite blogs’ RSS feeds to your personalized newspaper, so you don’t even need to have that feed reader open 24×7.

Once you’re done feeding in all your interests into Meehive, Click on the “Show me my newspaper” link and Meehive will create a really fancy looking newspaper for you.

As with a regular offline newspaper, the front page displays the top headlines from your chosen interests.

Meehive Top Stories

And if you’re interested in more stories related to a particular topic, scroll down a little and you’ll see stories from the individual topics that you chose.

The best thing about Meehive is that if on any given day, you’re bored of, say, Political news about Obama, you can go ahead and edit your interests and let Meehive display only news about Sarah Palin, instead – All within a couple of clicks.

I think Meehive might finally be the website that’ll help me get rid of my addiction to a physical newspaper and also help me save some trees in the process.
